When debate rages, as debate tends to do, over which the greatest fighter of WWI was, the usual suspects quickly arise, for Germany it is the impressive Fokker D.VII, the French would point to the SPAD XII, whilst the British contenders are usually the Sopwith Camel and the Se.5a. In this article Gene De Marco describes flying the latter, one of the three authentically reproduced examples now operating in NZ. The article is complemented by some lovely air to airs of the three together, a sight not seen since the end of the Great War.
